I understand the sentence to be "In '73 it became a television show, and today it continues every week." My question is about the form of the verb なる in the above sentence - why is it "なり" here? When is the stem form of the verb used in this way?

2. While typing in this sentence I had some difficulty typing 続いて. I actually had to type in "tsu-du-ite", but my understanding is this is pronounced "tsu-zu-ite"(which I originally tried typing in). Are there other characters which are typed with different romaji than pronounced, and how do Japanese speakers 'know' this?
