I've been reading a book and I'm puzzled about the use of か in this passage. This sentence describes someone trying to turn off an alarm clock.

ベッドの中からスッと伸びた手が、行く手を遮るのように置かれている。

Can someone explain the function of か in this sentence? Or in similar sentences? Thank you!
