I find it annoying that fonts like MS Mincho make hiragana look much messier than handwritten. For example, handwritten さ looks like this... さ

...while other fonts render this:


Other examples include に, き, and を (a special case where there is a protruding line on the left).

Can somebody explain the reason for this?
