Oct 20, 2014 at 5:45 comment added Oskar Lindberg @非回答者 I corrected the typo - thank you for pointing it out. It's unfortunate that the examples sound unnatural. The 犬, 地方は寒い and ガス代 examples are all written by Japanese people. Except for the one about the 説明書, I tried to draw the rest from memory of real-life experiences. Can the examples be saved by minor adjustments? If so, please help out suggesting modifications. If not, what would be really helpful is if you could explain why they are unsuitable. I know that's hard, 'cause "natural language" is about feeling, and may even differ between groups people, but please, if you can.

Oct 19, 2014 at 23:03 comment added user4032 All of your example sentences sound unnatural except for the last one about beer. It is 曖昧だけど, not 曖昧けど.

Oct 19, 2014 at 12:32 comment added Yang Muye @MarnellSample, in the last comment, I said だが was used like English apposition, but I actually meant parentheses according to definition 1ab from Merriam-Webster.
Oct 19, 2014 at 12:32 comment added Yang Muye @OskarLindberg, I actually think all your examples are used to introduce a new topic. In fact, you can replace the first three けど with から, although it may sound more pushy.
Oct 19, 2014 at 10:19 comment added Oskar Lindberg I'm so happy you think so :) Yes, I think you nailed it. (I added another example in my answer for how けれども can be used to introduce a new topic.)

Oct 19, 2014 at 0:36 comment added Marnell Sample Would the following be proper usage of けれども for this neutral connector? I want to say: "Tokyo is a beautiful city; I am thinking of going there next year." 「東京はきれいな都市ですけれども、来年そこに行こうと思っている。」
Oct 19, 2014 at 0:11 comment added Marnell Sample Thank you! These examples are great. Replacing けれども with either a semicolon or a dash helps it make perfect sense in my mind. They seem to allow a more "loose" or "neutral" relationship than what I typically think of for "and". I now understand the relationship you're conveying with the dog example.
