2015 Moderator Election

Hello everyone, I'm jkerian, one of your current pro-tempore moderators. I've been a member of the site since it started in May of 2011, and a moderator for around the last 3 years.

I lean somewhat towards the 'wiki' interpretation of the stack-exchange project, and tend to focus my editing on the perspective of "if this was the first page someone saw of the site, would they stick around?". Most of my moderation activity has focused around editing caustic (but informative) comments and answers down to the parts we want to preserve.

My earlier focus was on making sure that the community standards were actually written down in the FAQs. It's particularly important that newer users have a reference for the community's standards. For the most part, moderators are not heavily involved in enforcing these standards, but we can be useful in highlighting discussions of potential changes.

Like the other candidates, I can be found in the site chatroom if anyone has any questions.

I've been a member since 2011. I've no prior experience moderating, but I'm willing to do my best. I'm usually hanging around in chat and I participate when I can.

My approach towards expanding the community is to promote more discussions in chat. I think interactions off the main site are important in holding the community together; it gives a sense of belonging to the community when we hang out in the chat room.

I tend to be neutral as opposed to overtly friendly, and I tend to favor allowing problems to work themselves out instead of direct intervention.

I can read the chats in Japanese but it usually takes me some time to understand the entire wall. I hope we can get a Japanese moderator to help with disputes that occur entirely in Japanese, and also to have a cultural weight in these matters.

I guess one of the "strengths" of being around for 4 years is that I'm rather familiar with the Q/As to date, since I try to read every question when I can. I can redirect users to similar Q/As or suggest other posts as references to help them with their question. So I guess here's my CV of sorts: Visited 1487 days out of 4 yrs 3 mths (1551 days) with longest consecutive of 691.
