More or less independent web dude washed ashore in Japan.
More or less recently more less than more.

Fluent in conversational Japanese with a strong interest in languages,
not very academically trained though.
On the level of reading light novels for fun.

comment Differences among -たら、なら、-んだったら、-えば, etc
@repecmps Please feel free to edit my answer. I just tried to keep it concise while still covering all meanings. I'm not sure covering all related grammatical points would be well placed in the scope of this question.

comment What is the real difference between the proper use of the words さむい and つめたい?
@Tsuyoshi-san Hmm, I guess there are exceptions to this rule about touching, but it generally holds up. What would be your rule of thumb for the distinction? As for cold atmosphere, I should have probably better said that people can become 寒い in a 冷たい atmosphere.

@Dave Yes, as I wrote, people can be 冷たい. I'd say that expresses that the person is made of ice, hence cold to the touch. In his presence you may become 寒い, but the person himself is not 寒い (that would have a different meaning). His atmosphere would be 冷たい as well (paradoxically?).

Not sure I'd agree with はず being the stronger of the two. It really depends on the context and how it's spoken.
