I have been a Tokyo resident for 6 years; I've studied Japanese for 10.

My company Long Weekend LLC develops Awesome mobile software, including Japanese Flash, the best iOS Japanese vocabulary study tool out there. We also develop Rikai Browser, which allows you to translate Japanese words on web pages in realtime on iOS (may be very good for reading this site!).

I thought "Ateji" was 宛て字? Seems like both come up in my IME..

comment What's the difference in usage and nuance between やはり and やっぱり?
Wasn't aware of the stronger sense. That would make sense why I don't hear やっぱり used to superiors.

comment About 「同じ」 {onaji} and 「同じく」 {onajiku}
Nah, I think onajiku is an adverb. Usually it comes at the beginning - as you noted, and thus seems like a conjunction -- but in business speech it often comes in the middle in a sentence, I feel.

If we're speaking Canadian English, "ne" could be approximated with "eh?"

comment Meaning and level of 死ねばいいのに
Actually the OP leaves out a subject. It could have been metaphorical, referring to a problem or something. "Man I wish that problem would just die/go away". I don't think shinu HAS to be used with people specifically (though it usually is)

You're right on the meaning of "onajiku", but I'm not sure you can use onajiku as an adjectival noun like "onaji". I think it has to be used as an adverb?
