comment What exactly is 我, and how is it used?
I am no expert so anyone who wants to add to or edit my answer, please feel free. I am interested in the cultural implications of the word and would like to know where or by whom it is more commonly used.

comment Does バラの寝床 come directly from the English expression “bed of roses”?
@con5013d - however it is even harder to understand: for example if you search for "basketball" i get 700,000,000 results but only am able to access 60 pages of said results. So it is just a bad metric.

murakami has a reputation for writing in a style that at times seems like english translated into japanese.

comment Can Hiragana or Katakana stand alone?
if you get a book for a japanese toddler, it is usually written in all hiragana. So mostly for that level of communication

comment Is 「3人いるだと」 grammatical?
@Chocolate, is it grammatical if the 3人いるだ is treated as a quote? = "3人いるだ"と言いましたの?=Did you say it was three people?

comment Is 「3人いるだと」 grammatical?
@ogicu8abruok i think it is a shortened sentence. Maybe this is how it is shortened: 3人いるだと言いました?/3人いるだといった?/3人いるだと?

comment Could someone explain the ironic(?) use of よくいうよ?
I am posting my translations just so I remember them on this page: 4 Being impressed by someone doing something arduous and getting unimaginably delightful/gratifying results. 5 Rebuking someone for doing something ridiculous or senseless. A word using the meaning of 4 ironically.

oh on second thought i guess it doesn't make much sense if it is not "you being impressed by someone else..." doing something. thanks to both of you <3

comment What are some good ways to say “how to spell” in Japanese?
@oldergod i see 綴る used a lot there but it is not clear if it is used when asking general kana spelling. I was told by two Japanese people not to use it with japanese words so I asked the question.
