Why is “ゼロ” more popular than “れい”? unfortunately, many younger Japanese people seem ignorant about where the word zero comes from and assume it is Japanese. |

Particle-が in restaurant's name. Genitive particle? If が was for humans, than why does 星岡 have one? Or 自由が丘 for that matter? Different time period and usage? |

Can だ ever be used in a question? Don't get me wrong, his approach to Japanese was super helpful, and he says things that no other textbook will acknowledge though they be right. Another odd memory is that he was provided with info on why "同じ" appears to break some rules, but his question to the world on that is still in the guide AFAIK. |

Can だ ever be used in a question? I argued this in the Tae Kim forums long ago. Yet here it is, still in the guide after all this time. In fact, I've never heard of him editing that thing. |

If a compound noun is made from a na-adjective suffix, is it followed by a な particle? @Lukman When it comes to adjectival phrases like these, it makes more sense to assume an adjective, no? Besides, nobody uses 好く anymore ;-) |

What dialects use だべ? @axioplase I can specifically recall overhearing young brothers using it with each other here. But perhaps they were on a trip from somewhere else. Dabe just seems to be floating around in the background when I am about... |

What dialects use だべ? ah but they are intrinsically linked. What it meant in one time and location and what it means in modern times and locations is all related to dialect, I feel. |
