Is there a reliable translation of the kangxi radicals? I like kanjinetworks, but keep in mind they use a nonmainstream method of sound symbolism which often results in controversial kanji analyses; see languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=3699 . Sites with more traditional analyses include chineseetymology.org and zhongwen.com , but you'll might have to convert some characters to Chinese forms to use them. If you excuse me touting my own horn, I once made a simple tool to help with that: namakajiri.net/kanjigen . Have a nice hunting :) |

Function of the first の in とかの他の @PhilipSeyfi Google overestimates hit counts on the first pages. Use verbatim search, and keep forwarding to the last page. I got 434, ending on page 44. google.com/… ideally someone should search on an actual linguistic corpus to make a comparison, but at any rate I think it's reasonable to say that there are real people producing both forms (see twitter results). |

Function of the first の in とかの他の 396 Google "verbatim" results for "とかのその他". Several are false positives because there's a comma or period midway, but there are still plenty of actual uses. I get several on twitter too. |

Is 「喧嘩」 a verbal fight or a physical fight? I’m not a native but I think so, yes. In actual use either there would be more context or they’d choose different wording. That’s kind of the problem with sample sentences, in my opinion (people don’t talk or write in isolated sample sentences). |

動作 as opposed to 作用 Here you go: 「金田一春彦は動詞の表す動作・作用が時間的にどのように捉えられているかによって、次の4類が立てられることを説いた。」 The title (and topic) is 『アスペクトによる動詞の分類』. |

What’s an authoritative source for a complete list of official shinjitai kanji? Thanks! I knew there was a more logical place to look than Unihan. I’ve extracted my own list from the PDF, it’s available at namakajiri.net/kanjigen/shinjitai.txt . |

What’s an authoritative source for a complete list of official shinjitai kanji? as far as I know, only the jōyō have “official” shinjitai; analogous shinjitai for non-jōyō kanji are considered “unofficial”. so the set I was thinking about was jōyō. |
