comment のに and のが. How do they differ in the context below?
(1)日本語では、topic markerの は、も、動作主の は も「主語」と呼ぶので、それに引きずられて subject という単語を使ってしまっただけですよ。(2)文の構成要素の関係が違うのだから、比較すること自体がナンセンスです。(3)「この本は軽くて簡単だ」と「この本は軽くて‌白い」といったときに"軽くて"の意味が違うのは、(読むのが)が省略されているせいですよ。

comment のに and のが. How do they differ in the context below?
@TsuyosiIto (1)The word "subject" was not apropriate, the actor who feels 簡単だ is I. (2) 「象は鼻が長い」 は文法的解釈の曖昧さの例としては結構有名な例だから、いろいろな説明が見つかると思います。In this case B is "読むこと" , "読むこと" is not an attribute of "本", ( in contrust to "鼻" is an attribute of "象" ). (3) この本は簡単だ is a usual sentence , but この本は簡単だ is an abreviation of この本は(読むのが)簡単だ。

comment Is the “wa-particle” in katakana ワ or ハ?
Textbooks published in taisho period use katakana for japanese and hirakana for foreign languages. For exmaple kindai.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/1133275/9?tocOpened=1 第二章第四節「ふぇるまーノ定理」

comment Adding っぷり to a word: Does this have some easily defined meaning?
@fifaltra コケる also means "to fail", which is derived from the meanings "to trip over" or "to fall down" as said by Tokyo Nagoya.

もっとも、古典では、夫も妻もどちらも「つま」なので、もともとあまり区別はなかったのかも...

@andrew-grimm 同性婚といっても大抵の場合はどちらかが男役、どちらかが女役を演じているわけで、男役の方をご主人、女役の方を奥さんと呼ぶのは自然なこと。そういう役割が固定されてい‌ないケースならパートナーとか相方とか連れとかケースバイケース。

hmm... my dictionary says 'の(一)[格助]... ④次に述べる事に関係するものを示すのに使う。(イ)同様な事を次にも述べる時、つなぎに使う。「桜花咲きなむ時ー[丹]{に}つつじのにほはむ時に」(万)'。(sub‌ject marking usage is listed at (一)②(イ).)

comment What is the difference between 組, 団, 班, and 群?
I do not say that [群]{ぐん} is always a mathematical term. I just say if 群 is pronounced as ぐん, it may have different means from that of 群{むれ}. An other example is [群]{ぐん}の中心 -- this is a subset of a group consist of elements which are commutative with all elements in that group -- this is not same as [群]{むれ}の中心. [一群]{いちぐん}の羊 is a normal japanese, of course.

comment What is the difference between 組, 団, 班, and 群?
[群]{ぐん}を成す is a mathematical term. When a set satisfies the axioms of group (e.g. existance of inverse element, associativity rules etc.) , then we say that the set becomes a group [群]{ぐん}を成す. If one want to explain that many (usually living) things group together, one say [群]{むれ}を成す instead.
