I'm Japanese.

I hope to improve my English and use English more often,

so I'll answer your question.

I majored in Linguistics in college and have been studying it.

As a native speaker of Japanese, I hope to help you with your questions.

comment What does “ごうと音がして” mean?
@snailboat Thank you very much. There are differences in what each of us imagines in seeing the word of "burner" or "バーナー". I didn't take that into consideration. I will try to find other phrases for "ごうと音がして".

comment What does “ごうと音がして” mean?
If I translate "ごうと音がして" into "with a burner-like sound", does it make sense? Actually I would like to turn "with a roar" into another expression. How about "with a burner-like sound"?

comment Why do we say 頼もしい instead of 頼ましい?
There is difference in meaning between 狂おしい and 狂わしい. There is also difference in meaning between 好ましい and 好もしい. But I didn't know the difference until I read this article. Though I thought about and looked into 頼もしい, I couldn't find the reason. I am looking forward to some answers to be posted from now on.

comment What the difference between these two uses of toki?
やはり、おかしいです。主節の述語が過去形で「国に帰るとき」とすると、帰ることは実現したことになります。実現したのに、そのあとでそれを否定する内容が続くのがおかし‌‌いのです。わたしにとっては英語がむずかしいです。お互いにくじけず、前を向いていきましょう!
