If you had asked me a question in my area of expertise, no matter how stupid I thought that question was, I wouldn't have been rude about it. I would have blamed it on your lack of experience and done my best to correct you misconceptions. Yes this may have been a dumb question, but given the samurai's win or die honourably mentality, the difficulty in convincing Japanese soldiers to surrender, the seeming lack of any such mentality in Japanese culture, and quotes similar to those provided in the answers, it seemed plausible. |

Did the Japanese have a word for surrender before WWII? You're right, I should have been more sceptical, however I've never studied Japanese language. Furthermore, I was really young when someone, seemingly much more knowledgeable than myself, told me this. |
