Hi!

I am currently attending an Intensive language program at a university in Fukuoka Prefecture. I have been in Japan for a few years, but it is just not that I am trying to get serious about my studies. I speak pretty well and tend not to have trouble communicating with people when they are in front of me, but boy oh boy is my grammar terrible.

N1 by the end of 2013, that is the plan.

Thanks!

What do you mean? Because one is emphasizes a positive and the other a negative? しかも can be used to point out negatives as well: 現代の若者は電車のマナーがわからない。今朝、でんしゃに乗っている時ある青年の男子が席をゆずってくれなかった。しかも、PETボットルをそのまま捨てていた。

comment What sort of tone/nuance does せいぜい have? Can it be sarcastic or condescending?
Thank you for your response. I see what you mean in that there is not a sense of sarcasm. I suppose it based on the context of the sentence whether せいぜい is either used to express a hopeful or grim objective. Meaning, there is not an inherit emotion or nuance built into the phrase.
