Origin of 信じる, 感じる, etc? "I covered this topic earlier this week." I'm even more puzzled ^_^ where are you covering this? Japanese historical phonology I like very much. |

Origin of 信じる, 感じる, etc? 愛す makes sense because in CJ the verb する was just す at the end of sentences right? So 愛する人 but 人は愛す? Probably a source of confusion when the two forms were merged, with somebody using the shorter す and others using する? |

Origin of 信じる, 感じる, etc? "the push to normalize verbs to 一段 class". Hmm that confused me a bit. So in a period of history, language teachers purposefully changed words to 一段? |

Semantic meaning of 出 in 出会う, 出来る, etc 出来る doesn't seem to be 当て字, since it actually seems to match its kanjis' meaning, if you consider that the "object" of the verb gets the subject marker. I've always mentally read "私は日本語が出来る" as "As for me, Japanese goes and comes (i.e. can be spoken)" |

Using 全然 with a positive pejorative 全然 in Chinese just means "completely". There's nothing inherently negative in its kanji origins; probably a case of Japanese using 全然 in mostly negative contexts due to certain idiomatic expressions, and prescriptivists coming out to forbid its use in positive expressions. |

Casual speech particles in Classical Japanese Actually I'm not aiming for an Edo-period style but more of a late Heian-period, which I understand is very close to 文語. Also, it's an excuse for not learning yet another old version of Japanese ;) |

What is the correct romanization of イー? Japanese sh is halfway really between s and English sh. Shi doesn't feel closer than s to me. |

What is the proper pronunciation for 十分/10分? じっぷん or じゅっぷん? In OJ はひふへほ was pa pi pu pe po. The process was p->f->w/h->Ø en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Japanese is pretty nice. |
