I started learning Japanese at college in 2005 and have been an enthusiast ever since. I fan-translate Japanese light novels to keep my skills sharp.

Using more than one の +1 for answering the question both from a linguistic perspective and a style perspective. |

Looking for the original japanese of this haiku Sorry, without more context, there is no reason to believe this is related to the Japanese language. |

Can 首 be used to refer to students who have just graduated and not yet found a job? Can you explain why you would think that it had another meaning? |

What is the difference between ホワイトシャツ・ワイシャツ and 背広? These terms are not synonymous, as any dictionary would tell you. |

What does さちゅえい mean? "That word was the whole sentence"? Was it a blog post title, or a picture caption, or something? If that's the case, a link would help. It's often difficult to translate without context. |

How does adding 手 to the beginning of an adjective change its meaning? This is a lot closer to my impression of the meaning of the 手 prefix. The more I looked at the 手-adjectives, the more they seemed to be specifically about behavior. This raises a couple questions, though: 1) I've seen both 厳しい and 手厳しい used to describe human behavior; how does one decide which to use? 2) 手広い and 手短い don't seem to describe behavior--are they just more intense versions of 広い and 短い, or can one exhibit 手広い or 手短い behavior? |
