comment “causative of negative” vs “negative of causative”?
@sawa Your last paragraph states that the expression "tabe-sase-nai" means "forcing you not to eat". But doesn't "tabe-sase-nai" mean "not forcing you to eat" ?

comment How many translations of “ichigo” are there?
Must "ichigo" be written by one of the combinations of kanji listed there? For example, can someone simply say that "陽" is read as "ichigo" ?

So is it true that the difference in nuance between 「どうせ、彼は中学生だ。大したことはできないだろう。」 and 「所詮、彼は中学生だ。大したことはできないだろう。」 is that the first (どうせ) is an opinion of the speaker and is thus "subjective", whereas the second (所詮) is "objective"? Are there other hidden nuances besides the difference in subjectivity?

Ok, so 「どうせ、彼は中学生だ。大したことはできないだろう。」 carries the hidden meaning of presupposing that 中学生 does not have the ability to do 大したこと". But apologies, I do not really understand the explanation of 「所詮」. What does "the thing being something" mean? What is the hidden meaning of 「所詮、彼は中学生だ。大したことはできないだろう。」?

@dainichi Btw when you say "does happen in speech", do you mean that the speaker knowingly (with intention) does a 「おれん…」 instead of a 「おれの…」?

Yes that's what I'm talking about. If we just say 「バカ!」, 「バカ」 obviously refers to the father. Saying 「お父さんのバカ!」 is the same as saying 「バカ!」, except that this time we gave a description (adjective 「お父さん」) to the noun 「バカ」 which refers to the father.

Hmm I think that there may have been some phonological rules in play here, basing from the observance that the first N couldn't have ended with ん.

@syockit I can see where you are coming from, however the miscommunication is due to the fact that nouns cannot be turned into adjectives in English. Here I'm usnig "father" as an adjective. "father" as an adjective is not the same as "fatheric", the latter being "like father" instead of "father". It's like comparing the adjective "red" to the adjective "red-like".
