Took Japanese on and off through college (2 years of classwork total). Studied abroad at Kanazawa Institute of Technology for one summer. Anime and video game enthusiast. Always interested in polishing my skills. My greatest sources of practice these days are watching anime and playing Japan exclusive video games. Right now I have a goal to read a Japanese 17 x 11 book cover to cover.
大学の時日本語を断続的にとりました。ある夏金沢工業大学で留学しました。アニメやビデオゲーム狂です。いつも技能を磨きたいんです。主な練習の仕方はアニメを見たり日本語のビデオゲームをしたりすることです。 今私の目標は日本語の新書を読むことです。

When is 「だ/である」required between a noun and the quotation particle と? @istrasci "He said, 'I speak Japanese'". That's a direct quotation. "He said that he speaks Japanese." is an indirect quotation. |

When is 「だ/である」required between a noun and the quotation particle と? @istrasci an indirect quotation is one that is not the original speaker's exact words, but instead becomes a dependent clause within the sentence. |

Are there any Japanese words as versatile as “fuck” in English? It wasn't necessary for every word, just for 微妙. It's generally a good idea to add furigana when you're introducing a new word. It's unlikely that a reader who can benefit from the post will know the reading without furigana. |

Are there any Japanese words as versatile as “fuck” in English? Close, but not quite as versatile. しまった is closer to "damn". It can't be used as an adverb like "fuck". e.g. "This is fucking great!" |

“Opposite” of `和製英語` The one that's always gotten me was セーター (sweater). I used to always make the mistake of saying スエーター, and my Japanese friends would have no idea what I was talking about. |
