Took Japanese on and off through college (2 years of classwork total). Studied abroad at Kanazawa Institute of Technology for one summer. Anime and video game enthusiast. Always interested in polishing my skills. My greatest sources of practice these days are watching anime and playing Japan exclusive video games. Right now I have a goal to read a Japanese 17 x 11 book cover to cover.
大学の時日本語を断続的にとりました。ある夏金沢工業大学で留学しました。アニメやビデオゲーム狂です。いつも技能を磨きたいんです。主な練習の仕方はアニメを見たり日本語のビデオゲームをしたりすることです。 今私の目標は日本語の新書を読むことです。

'Hearty' in Japanese It sounds like you're looking for a word that makes a one-to-one translation between English and Japanese. Unfortunately no such word exists. shin's answer literally means "heart warming", which is just one sense of the word "hearty". I wouldn't say that this question doesn't show research effort, but you could stand to clarify exactly what you're looking for. |

Is being called an オタク derogatory? I could be wrong, but I think that オタク is still more broad than "nerd", since it doesn't just apply to intellectual stuff, but can also be applied to people who like to collect things that others would consider mundane like stamps, rocks, movies,Kit Kat flavors, etc. |
