@TokyoNagoya: Yes, I wanted to express the fact that she acted on an impulse (I presume) and that there is no coming back (I presume). Maybe 乗ってしまった or something else would express that better?

It might be dialect, but I hear it often and it really sounds like あせた not あせった. I guess people don't write it, but there are still many Google occurrences if that proves anything: google.com/…
