comment Is “着物” the most suitable Japanese translation for the English word “kimono”?
「the English word "kimono"」って、日本語の「着物」とどう違うのかが分かりません。What kind of things does "the English word kimono" normally refer to? From non-Japanese people's point of view?

comment why did Asahi Shinbun write “子{こ}ども”、instead of “子供{こども}” in this headline?
子ども is preferred over 子供 for the same reason as 障がい者 is preferred over 障害者.

comment Are both phrases really correct?
英語では「is the most famous in the world」も「is the most famous of the world」もOKなのかもしれませんが、日本語では、上に示したように、無理です。

makes no sense.」と言ったのです。

comment Vague method of description in Japanese
I think it depends on the intonation and the context (like, what is said after the 電車の中で).

comment Is ありす a traditional girl's name?
I don't think it's a traditional Japanese name. かなり新しいと思います。西洋の名前のAliceを真似したんだと思います。

comment the meaning of the expression あたいがとる
I thought this way: in the 1st stanza someone (maybe sumi's mon or dad) asks sumi what she wants, sumi says she wants a star but they say they can't reach it, so sumi decides to give it a try, and in the 2nd stanza she talks to the star "what do you want" and it says it wants water, so she invites it to come closer... (clever girl!) So I think the conversation in the 1st stanza is between sumi and someone, and the 2nd is between sumi and the star.
