Japanese Language Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for students, teachers, and linguists wanting to discuss the finer points of the Japanese language. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm writing a business e-mail to a Japanese speaking person, and I need to direct them to a certain URL. In English I would write "please visit http://www.example.com". I'm not sure the best way to say that in Japanese. My best guess is something like "http://www.example.comに訪ねてください", and if I was writing a friend I'd probably just try that figuring that they'd understand even if it wasn't quite right. But since this is formal business correspondence I want to make sure it's right.

I wouldn't say "outdated" per se, but my first inclination is ご覧ください and the top answer does not seem to emphasize this (even though it and two comments mention it). Is Xを訪ねる really appropriate for a business e-mail for "visit a website"?

Not fit to answer this, but I think you would use ご覧, perhaps like こちらをご覧ください。 –  Louis Dec 7 '11 at 20:05

Looking at Space ALC, some used expressions seem to be ~ご覧ください or ~ご確認ください but I'm not fit to answer this either. –  cypher Dec 7 '11 at 21:02

こちらご覧ください[link] would work I'm pretty sure, but I don't know if there is a more formulaic expression in this case. –  silvermaple Dec 7 '11 at 21:18

Ugh, Did I get downvote because I was confused the questioner is trying to only direct him/her to a certain URL?? I am sorry I was confused. As user458 says, 訪ねる means more "to visit somewhere ( = a physical place )" not the URL. –  Kentaro Tomono yesterday

"To change your setting, go to www.example.com, then click "my profile", then click "settings" >> Well in that case I think you could say something like 「設定を変更するには、www.example.comを開いて / にアクセスして、"my profile" → "setting" の順にクリックしてください。」 –  choco 23 hours ago

  • ...に訪ねる is ungrammatical. You have to use ...を訪ねる.
  • In the first place, using the expression 'visit' is metaphoric. It may work in English, but it is a bit strange in Japanse to use 訪ねる. As cypher writes, ご覧ください 'please see' is more natural.

On the off chance that the information on the referred page is related to the contents of your email, I'll add in ~をご参照【さんしょう】ください meaning "Please refer to..."
